Registrant and contacts

The registrant is the domain's owner: the person or company it belongs to. It is separate from the billing details, although they are often the same.

Contacts

Contacts are used as domain registrants. You find them in the dashboard under Contacts.

  • New contact: type (individual or company), name, address, email, phone and tax code or VAT number. Click Create contact.
  • At the top you see how many contacts you have, how many are used by domains, how many are not and which one is the default. The All, Used and Not used tabs filter the list; the Used as column shows for how many domains the contact is registrant or admin.
  • Clicking a contact opens its details and how many domains use it, with the role; Edit is there.
  • Set as default (⋮ menu): the contact suggested for new domains.
  • Edit: you can change address, email and phone. Name and company cannot be changed: for a different owner create a new contact and change the domain's registrant.
  • Delete (⋮ menu): shown only if no domain uses it.

During an order the first contact can be created straight from the checkout.

Change a domain's registrant

  1. Open Domains, click the domain name and then the Registrant tab.
  2. Choose the contact in Registrant contact and click Change registrant.

Changing registrant is a change of owner: the registry notifies both the old and the new owner, and for some extensions their confirmation is required.
